Okay...now I know there are a few recipes on my blog that may not be considered "healthy", but never you mind ;o). We made a Mexican burger tonight that was excellent. Now you may be thinking, Mexican????..tons of cheese, beans, salsa..but even this can be healthy. Instead of using the old stand-by Taco seasoning, make your own taco seasoning. Healthy eating is about flavor...minus the sodium. So here it is....
5 lbs lean ground turkey (this means you can make a lot of burgers, for leftovers and freezing)
1/2 onion, chopped finely
2 jalapenos, chopped finely
1/4 cup of the jalapeno juice
3 chili peppers, chopped finely (now these peppers you can eliminate from the recipe if you don't like spicy foods, we happen to love them)
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp cumin
2 tbsp garlic, minced
3 tbsp paprika
2 tbsp sun-dried tomato pesto (recipe on my blog)
1 can of black beans (no salt added)
1 cup reduced fat sharp cheddar cheese
Mix all ingredients together, form patties and grill. You can top the burgers off with additional cheddar cheese, a slice of avocado and a tbsp of your favorite salsa and a couple leafs of lettuce.
