Caramel Chocolate Bars

1 pkg German chocolate cake mix
¾ cup melted butter
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 6 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup nuts
1 pkg Kraft caramels
1/3 cup evaporated milk

Mix cake mix, melted butter and 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Spread half of this mixture in a lightly greased 9x13 cake pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Then sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts on top. Melt caramels with ½ cup evaporated milk. Drizzle over chocolate chips and nuts. Crumble and pat remaining cake mixture on top. This is quite wet – doesn’t really crumble so just pat this mixture into the rest of the ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Cut when cooled. Best when kept in freezer or refrigerator. Much chewier!
